Making Waves (and Power!) at Loch Lomond: The Day the Wee Demons Saved the Saunas 🌬️☀️

If you’ve ever wandered down to the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond at Luss, you’ve probably seen one of the coolest setups in Scotland: Hot Tottie Saunas. They offer the ultimate wood-fired Nordic sauna experience right on the beach. Picture this: relaxing in a beautifully authentic, steamy barrel sauna, looking out over the misty water, and then taking a wild, freezing dip in the Loch. Pure heaven, right?

But while they are absolute masters at generating intense heat and good vibes, they were having a wee bit of a nightmare when it came to generating electricity.

The Power Struggle on the Beach

Being parked right on the edge of the loch means Hot Tottie has a truly unique, stunning location. However, it also means they are completely off-grid. They needed reliable power to run their setups, lights, and essential gear, but Mother Nature wasn’t making it easy.

They reached out to us because their current setup was struggling. Now, normally, our first thought might be to bolt down a massive array of fixed solar panels. But Luss has its own microclimate, shadows from the beautiful surrounding scenery, and weather that likes to change its mind every twenty minutes. Fixed solar panels just weren’t going to cut it on their own.

So, the crew here rolled up their sleeves, put on our thinking caps, and engineered a clever, hybrid solution to keep the power flowing no matter what the Scottish weather throws at them.

Enter the Micro Wind Turbine & Hybrid Setup

When the sun goes down (or hides behind a giant raincloud for three days), what do we have plenty of on the banks of Loch Lomond? Wind!

We installed a sleek, highly efficient micro wind turbine to catch those coastal breezes spinning off the water. But we didn’t stop there. To give Hot Tottie the ultimate flexibility, we built a custom system featuring an external solar connector port.

Instead of heavy, permanent solar panels stuck in one place, they now have a high-powered, movable solar panel that they can simply plug right into the outside of their setup.

Why this is a total game-changer:

• Chase the Sun: If a nearby tree or building casts a shadow, they can literally just pick up the solar panel and move it right into the sweet spot.
